la Passionara

An ink drawing of the statue in Glasgow  “la passionara”.

Representing Isidora Dolores Ibárruri Gómez
(9 December 1895 – 12 November 1989), known more famously as “La Pasionaria” (passion flower) was a Spanish Republican leader of the Spanish Civil War and communist politician of Basque origin. She is perhaps best known for her defense of the Second Spanish Republic with the famous slogan ¡No Pasarán! (“They Shall Not Pass”), during the Battle of Madrid. (Wiki entry)

I was asked to draw this as a gift for someone. The drawing is slightly smaller than you see it here so it is a tiny thing. Not easy for the aging eyes. The frame will be engraved with the quote “Better to die on your feet than live forever on your knees”
